Project Accountant

Kevin Ross graduated from Cornish College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Arts degree. At KZ Companies, Kevin supports all aspects of construction management, planning, budgeting, accounting, property management and office administration at the San Diego office. Prior to working with KZ Companies, Kevin worked for a construction contractor.

Nick Byrd

Nick Byrd

Nick has effectively overseen some of the firm’s large restaurant and drug store remodel projects. From pre-construction to project completion, Byrd is dedicated to managing project teams and subcontractor relationships. He pursued a career in construction management to connect everything he was passionate about: building, problem solving, and working with us in a cohesive environment. He holds Certificates in both Estimating and Project Management from the A.S.P.E. With his extensive background in Business Management and Sales, Nick is able to effectively manage a team and get the job completed on time. Nick came to KZ Miller Construction from PPG Industries, where he held the title of Construction Document Manager.

Joseph Amaral

Joseph Amaral

Joseph has over 30 years of experience with extensive retail, restaurant, and drug store project portfolios. He began his career as Project Manager in the early 90’s where he built ground up Rite-Aids, Souplantations, Walgreens, Save-ons, and other major shopping center renovations. Joseph also has experience running a development company, managing multimillion dollar budgets, developing residential projects, and renovating hospitals. In his role as Senior Project Manager at KZ Miller Construction, Joseph fosters an environment of teamwork and ensures that strategy is clearly defined while overseeing performance and maintaining moral. He provides clients with consistent communication and oversees project delivery from start through warranty, including the execution of financial performance and delivery of client goals and objectives. Joseph, has his B1 Contractors License, B.S. Degree in Accounting, and his California Real Estate Broker License.

Leah Petzen

Leah Petzen

Project Coordinator

Leah comes to KZ with nearly 10 years of experience in commercial and retail construction having previously worked for companies such as Eleven Western Builders, Inc. and Sunseri Construction, Inc. in positions such as Executive Assistant, Estimating Assistant and Project Administrator. At KZM, Leah assists project managers with project estimating, subcontracts, and project bidding.

Elizabeth McKinley

Elizabeth McKinley

Vice President of Development

Elizabeth McKinley is responsible for establishing new retail client relationships and partnering with valued clients’ real estate and construction teams to help strategize, source and build their new store locations. Elizabeth also works closely with our development and construction teams to research, analyze, purchase, and entitle build to suit projects.

Elizabeth has over 20 years of retail real estate experience. Prior to joining KZ, Elizabeth held asset management and real estate director roles with Realty Income Corporation, Petco, Toys “R” Us and Price Club (now Costco). She is an active member of ICSC. Elizabeth attended James Madison University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

Julie Laszlo

Julie’s primary responsibilities include handling all operational accounting transactions and financial coordination of the CVS Pharmacy account. She also manages the financial activities of the general partners & the property management accounts.

Amanda Zimmerman

Amanda Zimmerman

Development Associate

Amanda Zimmerman is an Associate of KZ Companies Acquisitions Team. Her primary responsibilities include multifamily acquisition and remodels, assisting in the financing and refinancing of core projects, as well as working with the acquisitions team sourcing ground-up retail development projects in the California and Hawaii areas. Before starting at KZ Companies, she worked for an Office redevelopment and asset management company in San Diego where she focused on loan administration. In her spare time, Amanda enjoys being actively involved with CREW and serves as a committee member on UCREW. Amanda graduated from the University of San Diego in 2018 with degrees in Finance and Real Estate.

Nikki earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Cal State L.A. in 2014. Before beginning at KZ Miller, Nikki worked on multi-million dollar projects in the construction field at various construction companies as a project accountant. At KZM, Nikki handles accounts payable & receivable as well as assisting in other aspects of financial management.

Emma has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Cal State Long Beach. Prior to joining KZ Miller, Emma worked in project management and now uses her economic and management background at KZ Miller as a staff accountant. Emma assists in all aspects of daily financial operations.

Ryan Foster

Assistant Project Manager

Ryan received his MA degree in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University. Before coming to KZ, Ryan opened, grew, and sold a small business over a span of seven years. Ryan currently works on project planning from infancy through completion, including scheduling, budget control, and interdepartmental communication on a daily basis to ensure projects run as smooth as possible.
